Applications

Where responsive boost matters.

Beyond well-known automotive boost, the Hansen Variable Displacement Supercharger has potential across off-road recreational vehicles, marine engines, military vehicles, and light construction equipment — settings where fuel economy and rapid response both carry real weight. Some engines that benefit from boost are poorly suited to turbocharging, and make strong candidates for efficient, responsive supercharging instead.

Advanced combustion systems

Emerging combustion engines may need fast transient response and more stable, predictable airflow than a turbocharger can provide.

Marine outboards

Water-cooled outboards can preclude turbochargers, where the liquid phase would be destructive to turbine blades.

Advanced two-stroke engines

Some load conditions call for a scavenging pump that a turbocharger alone cannot serve.

Heat-sensitive installations

The high temperatures of turbocharging and its hot exhaust hardware can raise fire hazard in some applications.
